-Based on  reviews  the film holds a 100% fresh rating, by having an average score of 8.3/10. At Metacritic, which normalizes critical reviews over a scale of 1-100, the film carries a 73, indicating "generally favorable reviews",.
-IGN awarded the film four out of five stars, nevertheless director Gary Ross "gets a bad tone with the Hunger Games right. This is the grounded, thoughtful and frequently quite emotional film, with its dark scenario given due weight. Ross doesn't give the film a glossy, romanticized 'Hollywood' feel, but plays everything very realistically and stark, as Katniss must endure these outrageous and horrible scenarios." The film received a small amount of criticism due to the shaky camera style, but it was believed to "add to your film in most ways." Both Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson were praised with regards to portrayals as Katniss and Peeta, and IGN also drew care about the role reversal of sorts involving the female and male leads, plus the proven fact that Lawrence is taller than Hutcherson, that's rare in these cases. Katniss is viewed as much more of a "classic hero figure" and Peeta is the individual who must be protected. Ross' was criticized as a result of his lack of skill with action films, however in general, IGN feels that those who browse the book or you cannot will delight in the film.
